CANNABIS REGULATION THAT GIVES GUARANTEES
Uruguay was the first country worldwide to establish a complete regulation, of national reach, for production, distribution and commercialization of Cannabis for any purpose.
Since 2013, the law enables the production of psychoactive and non-psychoactive cannabis for medicinal, adult or scientific research use, in addition to the cultivation of industrial hemp (with a THC concentration of less than 1%).
The strength of this regulation not only relies on its comprehensiveness, but also on the fact that it clearly separates the authorization, production and control conditions for medicinal uses, scientific research, adult use and industrial hemp.
Therefore, cannabis or its derivatives production for medicinal use can only come from cultivation facilities and laboratories authorized for that purpose by the Institute for the Regulation and Control of Cannabis (IRCCA) and the Ministry of Public Health (MSP). This creates the necessary guarantees for patients, physicians, researchers and industry customers.
